Saints from Europe boarded ships and sailed to America, to gather with the Saints in Zion. Soon, the metaphor coined by Brigham Young “the Old Ship Zion”, came to represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In his 2014 conference address, Stay in the Boat and Hold On!, the late Elder M. Russell Ballard testified, "...if any one of you have fallen out of the boat, we will seek you, find you, minister to you, and pull you safely back onto the Old Ship Zion, where God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ are at the helm and will guide us right."
